Patient Flat Lift

In the health sector, around 50% (over 5,000) of all accidents reported to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) involve manual handling. The majority of such injuries occur when staff in the caring services lift, carry and move patients.

In addition to the incidents reported to HSE there are around 282,000 patient falls reported to the National Patient Safety Agency. (NPSA) The NPSA Rapid Response Report of January 2011 states:

“ When a serious injury occurs as a result of an inpatient fall, safe manual handling and prompt assessment and treatment is critical to the patient’s chances of making a full recovery ”

"A significant number of these falls result in death, severe or moderate injury including around 840 fractured hips, 550 other types of fracture, and 30 intracranial injuries "

The report NPSA/2011/RRR001 issues the following for IMMEDIATE ACTION:

“ NHS organisations with inpatient beds should ensure that: Their staff have access at all times to special equipment (e.g. hard collars, flat-lifting equipment, scoops) and colleagues with the expertise to use it, for patients with suspected fracture or potential for spinal injury ”

The deadline for compliance is 14 July 2011

Recognized as the industry standard for safe patient lifting, the HoverJack allows caregivers to safely lift patients that have fallen without the need to gather a lift team. The HoverJack inflates with air to lift patients from the floor to bed or stretcher height in the supine position, maximising patient safety and minimising the risk of injury to both patient and staff.
